This paper examines divergences in the degree of openness towards innovation partners (i.e. search breadth). Our explorative analysis, focused on Italian SMEs competing in mid-high tech industries, generally confirms our hypothesis based on behavioral theory of the firms. In particular, we show that Italian family-owned SMEs have a lower search breadth than their nonfamily counterparts. Furthermore, our preliminary findings points out that the stronger the family is, the less Italian SMEs will be open to cooperate with external actors supporting R&D processes.

Adopting a knowledge-based view of the firm, this paper explores how different contents of firm-level entrepreneurship may influence performance of companies in mature industries. More specifically, this paper aims at: 1) identifying what kind of entrepreneurial behavior (new-market entry, new-product development, diversification) is more suitable to survive and prosper in mature industries; 2) discussing if knowledge sharing is to be promoted to successfully compete in these industries; 3) identifying which kind of knowledge (market knowledge or technology knowledge) is most needed to develop entrepreneurial behavior in mature industries.

The formation of networks among museums is a recent and growing phenomenon which deserves further studies. Research on the Italian case show that networking among museums is still in an embryonic phase and cooperation is initiated and supported mainly by local institutions and governmental bodies, given the small size and the geographical dispersion of museums. The present paper contributes to a further understanding of the phenomenon of museum networks, offering empirical validation to theoretical hypotheses derived from the literature on museum networks in their embryonic evolution. The paper relies on data derived from roster questionnaires delivered to respondents from two Italian museum networks in different phases of their embryonic evolution.
