Abstract
The article presented aimed at analysing strengths and weaknesses of the "intensive care" organisational model which is rapidly developing within different Italian regions. The main strengths are an improved care for patients and a more effective management of the therapeutic healthcare pathways. To maximise the benefits of the implementation of this model, specific managerial and organisational medical and nursing solutions are needed. There is a need of organisational flexibility which takes into consideration the complexity of care and clinical instability, of the implementation of a nursing modular model and of retrieving the concept of specialized competences. Taking into consideration the example of the new Hospital of Vimercate, within this article a conceptual proposal of a management matrix integrative model is presented, in order to develop a patient focused re-organisation, creating organizational units of variable size, analysing (through a continuous monitoring) the demand of healthcare services and internal competences.
