Abstract
Libraries have undergone continuous technological evolution over the last fifty years, and have reacted to the opportunities offered by changes in the world of information by creating hybrid environments, where physical libraries coexist with digital libraries, and collections are organized in a functional way for the different purposes and needs of the communities served. In the face of the continuous growth in the complexity of information universes, the function of advising and orienting the choice of information, traditionally part of library services, has become increasingly central, as well as the ability to educate for a conscious use of relevant and authoritative documentation. IFLA, the International Federation of Library Associations, has coined the term "Media and Information literacy" to indicate the ability of individuals to search, select, read and learn from relevant information. In an Information Society, today of artificial intelligence, the challenges of increasingly complex and less comprehensible information contexts make libraries, which have always worked for the selection of documentation and for education in a critical and conscious use, a cornerstone among the institutions that promote the personal and social growth of citizens through the search and reading of quality information.
