Abstract
The advent of digital technologies signifies an advancement in industrial operations that enables organisations to build flexible and agile supply chains (SC). Despite the growing implementation among companies, the effectiveness of digital technologies towards enabling operations and SC strategies for improved operational performance and realisation of the organisational strategic objectives is still in its infancy. The dissertation provides, via a fourstage research, an overview of the impact and level of significance of the main digital technologies on lean and agile SC practices. It subsequently assesses the potential performance implications of integrating the technologies with the management practices of lean and agile. The dissertation concludes that the technologies, when aligned with the SC practices, will ensure attainment of more levels of operational performance improvement allowing for the realisation of organisational strategic objectives. The findings provide critical managerial insights for organisations aiming to choose which technology might be suitable to support their operations, and some recommendations that can assist firms (especially the SMEs) towards digitising their SC operations.
