Abstract
Because of its Roman law tradition Italy is considered, especially by its citizens, the homeland of law and legal studies, but in the last thirty years the Italian legal system has suffered a series of legal transplants from U.S. law such as the reform of criminal trial, company and banking law, the introduction of class action, trust and derivative contracts and so on. With regard to law schools Italy is taking the model of legal clinics and the study of court cases. There is no doubt that the prestige of the American model has played a leading role in the implementation of these legal transplants, but the purpose of this abstract is to investigate the impact of American legal drama on Italian popular culture, especially relating to the formation of Italian public opinion. TV series or legal movies influence Italian citizens making them believe that the American model is more efficient than Italian one and therefore it has to be transposed into Italian legal system. Finally, it is necessary to verify whether and in which case the most relevant legal transplants have been accepted and if the legal background of Italian culture has slowed, if not stopped, full transposition.
