Abstract
Entrepreneurship is a multi-faceted phenomenon, as well as the studies on it. This paper aims at presenting a literature review on entrepreneurship, from the seminal work of Cantillon to the most recent studies developed within the field of management. The review starts with the origins of entrepreneurship research in economics. Particular attention is devoted to the studies of Schumpeter. Entrepreneurship literature is analyzed taking into consideration also the contributions of those scholars operating within non-economic fields of inquiry, such as psychology and sociology. The last section of the paper is dedicated to the management studies on entrepreneurship, focusing on the work of Italian scholars. We conclude analyzing the most recent and promising developments of the field.
