Abstract
Logistics, and transportation as well, are services required by manufacturing and commercial companies, and involving a large community of players. In Lombardy over 20.000 logistics service providers can be found that meet the need for handling, storage and transport of goods arising from a territory generating the 28% of national value added by itself. These companies offer services necessarily influenced by network infrastructures and logistics nodes, which over time have evolved in a spontaneous and uncontrolled way. In particular, the location of warehouses and freight villages that, very often deriving from private initiatives, has been primarily determined taking into account drivers such as the proximity to highways, railways and intermodal platforms. In this paper we try to provide an innovative view for assessing logistics services in Lombardy, from three standpoints: the economic-productive perspective, the node and network point of view and, finally, the logistics and transport company position.
