Abstract: Implementing a performance measurement system (PMS) for Research&New Product Development (R&NPD) is fundamental for supporting decision making but is a very challenging task, because effort levels are not measurable and success is highly uncertain. Although this subject has been debated in the literature so far, the need for efforts to applications in real contexts is still strong. This paper investigates the design of a PMS in R&NPD in a case study - Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei - based on the balanced scorecard and the Lynch and Cross’s pyramidal framework. The main contribution of this article concerns translating theoretical systems into operative, effective and efficient performance measurement practices.
